Paragon Productions contacted us with a brief calling for a number of large scale replica’s of everyday items such as, two meter tall coffee cups, huge milk and cereal cartons, some very large sugar sachets, and a couple of giant teaspoons.
These props were to travel to Australia as motivational tools for an NZI insurance company conference. As airfreight was the intended method of cartage, we carefully considered materials used during construction. The cups and teaspoons we formed from expanded polystyrene and a hard coat applied for a smooth and durable finish, the boxes we constructed from a composite board with a lightweight foam centre and the sugar sachets were from a heavy weight paper.
Once we had completed the forms, we painted them with their respective background colours and had the boys from Abbey Signs apply large format self-adhesive vinyls that we sourced from Mesh Digital here in Wellington. With those in place, we were ready for delivery.
This project came with a tight deadline, so the turnaround through to realization had to be swift and incorporate delivery to the venue the day before the conference was due to start, which I’m glad to say we managed without a hitch.
The props have since returned to New Zealand, and we hear that NZI will utilize them again at future conferences.
