The NZ fire service finds as many ways as it can to bring its message of fire prevention and safety across New Zealand. Two New characters in the ‘firewise’ campaign are Flint and Amber, who through various learning media, reach out to children and parents alike. The Fire service wanted Flint and Amber to take the next step off the screen and into the flesh. These mascots interact with the public face to face, aimed specifically at our most precious asset: New Zealand kids!
Izzat Design translated and created flint and Amber into three-dimensions in the form of a pair of costumes. These costumes are adjustable, designed to fit as many different bodies as possible. Each costume has a headpiece, a pair of boots, a formed cartoon style cape, and gloves. These all fit over the standard fire-fighter outfit.
The ability to move about freely, shake hands and communicate with the public gives the NZ fire service another channel with which to educate children in the methods of fire prevention, and communicate how to make NZ homes safer.
To date Izzat has made two sets of the ‘Flint and Amber’ mascots. The Fire services intention for the future is to have a Flint and Amber in each fire region across the country.
Come on kids get firewise!
