Lyttelton timeball dvd remote control

'functional themed prop'

Locales asked Izzat to design and create a themed DVD remote control housing for their client, The Historic Places Trust, Timeball in Lyttelton New Zealand.

The design of the housing needed to reflect the era of the time (nineteenth century), and look like some sort of maritime navigational device.

The materials we used also reflected the era, Brass, Oak, Mahogany and leather gave an authentic feel and look to the device.

On entry to the Timeball Station, visitors are treated to an introductory film about the Timeball and its history. The host sets the scene, using the themed DVD remote control as a theatrical and practical prop.

As well as creating the themed DVD remote control housing, we also made a range of scale replicas of navigational equipment, from the Polynesian navigation chart too brass Mariners Astrolabe.
