Maurice Bennett a well-known New Zealand artist, who works with ‘toast’ as a medium, commissioned Izzat Design to make an architectural landscape and model toaster for him. Maurice plans to use this model to help realize his plans for a huge public artwork.
The model has been on show during Maurice’s 2007 Toast art exhibition at the South Coast Gallery, Island Bay.
Izzat Design has also been involved in the development, planning, and design of the future project. The plan is to construct the form of the toaster with a combination of techniques, from the sculpting of a lightweight core through to casting a hardwearing concrete surface reinforced with steel. The toast will be lightweight composite or an aerated concrete.
Lighting will be set into the toaster to illuminate the toast when it is dark.
Maurice would like to find a location for this sculpture, where a public audience can appreciate it.
